About Durango Youth Ballet
The Durango Youth Ballet is a performing group designed to provide extra training and performing opportunities for serious students, running under the guidance of Artistic Director Frances Rosser Taylor. The Durango Youth Ballet learns extra choreography by Ms. Taylor as well as other guest choreographers. Choreography is prepared for performance in the Ballet Durango Spring Recital as well as in other performances throughout the year.
While our main emphasis is not on dance competitions, we offer our dancers opportunities to compete in regional events. Competition can be a fun learning experience if dancers approach it with a healthy attitude. Older, more advanced dancers also have the opportunity to take classical variations to Youth America Grand Prix if they choose and are ready.
This year we will have two groups in the Durango Youth Ballet. Group A should be working at level III ballet or above and be age 11 or older to be considered. Group B should be at least nine years old and have completed or be working strongly at Ballet II to be considered. Students are required to take a certain number of classes per week depending on which group they are in. Specific information is available upon request and will be given to students who audition. Many rehearsals are held on Saturdays, although we are sometimes able to schedule rehearsals during the week.
